Pentrace East

From 2001 to 2006, Pentrace had a Japan section with its own logo, message board and pen market. Pentrace members in Japan wrote reports on Tokyo pen shows, pen clinics, maki-e studios and Japanese pen makers. Here's everything it published.

About Pentrace East

Pentrace East opened in October 2001 with reports from the Sailor and Pilot pen clinics and the first Hakase pen event in Tokyo. It lived alongside the main site, first at pentrace.com/east and later at pentrace.net/east, but it had a look of its own: a yellow header, East editions of the Message Board and PenMarket, and a gold folding-fan logo designed by Russ Stutler.

Russ, a longtime Pentrace member living in Tokyo, was the section's editorial director, and wrote or co-wrote many of its reports with Mikiko Yamamoto. Donal Higgins was the publisher, and Len Provisor the business director. The articles were in English, but the section also carried reference pages in both languages, such as a guide to Tokyo pen shops and a phrase list for buying and selling pens, and Japanese-language pages for its advertisers.

The last new East articles appeared in 2006, and the section went offline with the rest of Pentrace. All of its pages survived in the original site files and are back on Pentrace.ink.
