News from the Pen Front - Part II

Continuing the review of the National Stationery Show (click here for part I)at the Parker Exhibit we saw the new color being introduced for the Duofold Mosaic. This is a special edition in a limited number in this color. Sorry, I did not find out what the number might be.

It is an alternation of subtle shards of terra-cotta and gray, enhanced by the beautifully applied platinum clip and trim. It will be made with a medium point only and has an 18kt solid gold nib and has a cartridge converter filling system. The lighting was poor around this display so I have to rely on the flyer for the image.

It will be available in a fountain pen, roller ball, ballpoint and pencil, which will be available in the U.S. this time around.

The suggested retail on the fountain pen will be $410, the roller $270, the ballpoint $225 and the pencil $225.

The bonus at the Parker Exhibit was the samples of the new colors in their gel refills. What a great refill and now what great colors. Three new colors are purple, turquoise and green and they are interchangeable with all Parker ballpoint pens. If you like gel pens, these are really great.

Now, moving along at the show we stopped at the Conklin Exhibit to see the new Mark Twain Series. We chatted with Rob Rosenberg and his father, Harold Rosenberg and a surprise visitor. Can you guess who that is?

Surprise visitor at Conklin: a life-size Mark Twain figure between Rob and Harold Rosenberg

In keeping with the original Conklin pens, the company has introduced their crescent fillers, in a black chased material and the blue marbled version. They are true to the originals in every respect, size, function and appearance. The black models looks and feels like a black chased hard rubber crescent filling #50 and the blue marble gives a new look to an old trusted style. I can't decide which I prefer, but then again, you have to make your own decisions on this one and I guarantee will be difficult.

Looks like someone else is trying to decide here.

The imprints on this one are all mixed up. This is only a prototype. The production pens will be shipping shortly.

The suggested retail price for the Fountain Pen-$365.00 and the Roller Ball - Ball Point Convertible - $175.00

That is all for now. I will continue with Part III, Ancora, Aurora, Delta and Krone. There are some really great pens coming out this year. Wait until you see.
