Namiki 2003 Limited Editions - The Yukari Royale Collection
| Pentrace presents the Namiki 2003 Limited Editions that were introduced at the recent Frankfurt Paperworld exhibit. These Limited Editions will be presented here exclusively on Pentrace over the next three weeks. Namiki was the original name of Pilot Pen and its founder Ryosuke Namiki. Pilot's Namiki writing instruments are produced at the Hiratsuka factory in Central Japan. For the Namiki Collections, skilled Japanese artisans use the finest materials
to create a line of writing instruments that look beautiful and perform flawlessly.
Maki-e lacquering, a centuries-old technique in which multi-layered patterns are
drawn on the barrel and cap with urushi - sap from Japanese lacquer trees. The
hand-painted designs richly interpret scenes of nature in precious metals and
lavishly colored pigments.
Taka-Maki-e pens have 8 layers and those featuring Hira-Maki-e have 6 layers
of applied lacquer. A complete range of nib styles are available, however Namiki nibs are unique as to degrees of finish. Namiki nibs are one half increment finer than those made in Europe and the United States. Namiki recommend that you try to use a leather case for carrying their Maki-e pens. This will protect the finish from scratches or nicks.
